A Heart’s Medley

Pic: Cleo Foley pinterest

Augmenting scores of our swansong

Rewriting the staves of my heart’s medley

Polishing the instruments of the story gently

As the lyrics roll off my tongue

A beautiful symphony of fond memories

Unplugged renditions of silent reveries
Previously we sang off the same hymn sheet

Our blended genres produced a sound so unique

Life was a song and our love was the music

Our quantized love rhythmic to the beat

We were the refrain to several ballads and psalms

Lovers sway to our tunes as they hum
You were the violin and I the bow, inert when apart

Together an orchestra, churning one sound

The harmony of our notes held us bound

Like the skilful piper you captured my heart

Enchanted trinity; body, soul and mind

My ears never encountered music of this kind
You captivated with your chords of adulation

Dazzled with your sweet silky licks

Leaving an insatiable crave after all the tricks

Arpeggiating chords of my emotion

Musical utopia was a permanent state

But pride turned this beauty to hate
Unapologetically running solos of distraction

You strummed chancy melodies of deceit

A broken record, self-glorifying on repeat

Like the fallen angel seeking bars of gratification

Shattering the sacred frets of chemistry thenceforth

Spinning me confused in circle of fourth(s)
We muted the klaxon of unison

Unraveling with every modulation

We drifted apart with every syncopation

Crashing the sacred cymbals of reason

Tearing asunder the vellums of trust

Hopes of a lasting duo belong to the past
The progressions of life is full of lows and gains

Filled with major and minor scales

An album bereft of fairy tales
Rehearsed hours in spite of pains

Though we may be long past our prime

Let’s grab the spotlight one last time

LOVE IS NEVER ENOUGH

They said never give all the heart, for love

But how could I not when tis a gift given to us from above

They said loving you was against the law

Yet pushing boundaries has always been my greatest flaw

I paid the price and committed treason

For love I flushed out neurons of reason

Not lost on me the magnitude of my sin

I convinced myself that to lose was to win

Looking back I never stood a chance

Fooled by Love’s dangled carrot of romance

I was nothing but a pawn in this elaborate scheme

“Crushing down my kingdom” was always its theme

Stealthily it used me to break behind the lines

Duly I was warned yet I failed to see the signs

It fed my ears with honeycombed promises and lies

So high on love I couldn’t see beyond the guise

Love swore to be the angel fending away my demons

Seasons passed while sheepishly I lapped in love’s sermons

Such cunning effort to pull off this masquerade

I applaud such an intricately engineered charade

Dreams of walking together down the aisle

Now realistic nightmares of me solitarily sulking in exile

Love ripped out my heart and left the rest behind

All I ask of you, is that you keep it and be kind

The price of love is a grave one indeed

Spare yourselves the pain, for its yoke is heavy I plead

Love knew the ropes and didn’t want to be tied

It shamed me and robbed me of my pride

I underrated love and called its bluff

Ironically the love I had for love was never enough

Us Against The World

image

It will always be us against the world
Two souls fused into one, knitted and purled
This love we share is never meant to die
An ethereal bond beyond the earth and sky

Right by your side is where I long to be
Sozzled silly with love, just you and me
Recreating Romeo and Juliet’s plight
Basking in the glow of the stars at night

Our sparks of passion held in a diode
You are the cathode to my anode
My heart now in yours carefully stowed
Our hearts beat in series as the Morse code

Surely we are bound to have ups and downs
What matters is to wipe away all the frowns
In squabbles we still ooze love in doses
Our love emblazoned with guns and roses

Though they come at us hammer and tong
The scars and bruises only make us strong
Our love to foil they plot with their schemes
“Us against them” will forever be our theme

Stuck together as the towers that lean
I’d sacrifice the rook to save you the Queen
“Us against the world” sang the Seraphim
You and I, the hook to that sacred hymn

THANK YOU FOR BRINGING ME HOME

Lost in tots of my thoughts
Thinking of life in this messed up world
Where evil seems to prevail over good
Darkness eclipsing the light
Right is wrong, wrong is right
The wickedness of man displayed in glare
Injustice everywhere
I hesitate in my faith
Lingering questions and doubts
Searching for answers in all the wrong places
Forgetting, in you is the database for all of life’s cases
I made a deal with the devil
Followed his handle
Subscribed to sin
His snapshots of lies I pin
Shared in his ruse
Oblivious I was his muse
Gorging gastronomic pleasures of hell’s kitchen
Traded my soul for the glitz and glam
Epic swindle, it was all a sham!
Washed up, dejected, dragged down to the lowest stratum
Empty and void I hit rock bottom
Conflicted and ashamed
Shunned and defamed
A rebel now tamed
Flashbacks of horrific life decisions
A packed life of promise placed in precarious positions
Tired and broken should I go back?
Even the servants in my father’s house know no lack
Suddenly a voice whispers to me
“Come home my child, for my blood was shed for thee”
The one in whom He was well pleased
Though the wages of sin be death; on that day He was appeased
An incredible display of love got my sins atoned
I continue to fail yet you still call me your own
You gave your life for me that I might be saved
My destiny changed by the awesome price you paid
With the blood that you dripped
To catch me when I slipped
Washed away all my shame
Cleansed me from sin’s guilt-stain
Made worthy of your sacrifice on the cross in pain
Old things are passed away
All things are new
I’ve found my life in you
I am not the same
I’ve been changed
You robe me with a new garment of glory
Time to tell the world about my story
I am no longer a sinner
I have the power to walk like a winner
My mind in you now I renew
Ten thousand tongues won’t suffice to praise you
Saints and angels sing glory to the lamb
Thank you for bringing me home

Beautiful Madness

image

Love like the raffle, is a gamble
Like the lottery you either win or you tumble
The faint heart doesn’t always lose the fair lady
Fairy tales of life don’t always have their happy ending
If love is true and pure why is it so shady?
To reason with love is a task too demanding

Love they say is the seventh sense
Yet love is full of drivel and nonsense
To fall in love is to be oblivious to the sixth sense
It feels, tastes, smells, hears but sees no common sense
The eternal battle between heart and mind
Functioned to transmit blood now burdened with love
Brain numbed from the deprivation of oxygen
Futile attempts of ECT to reverse symptoms of love’s mental illness
Little surprise love decisions aren’t glorified with brilliance

Love they say is meant for fools and their heirs
For wise men waste not their time building castles in the air
Day dreaming of unicorns and rainbows
Uninterested in fantasies and puppet shows
In the kingdom of love the fool is crowned king
Love is the wisdom of the fool and the folly of the wise
To wrestle with love is to meet your demise

Love they say is pure and kind
Yet can be cruel and unkind
A love unrequited is a punishment to the extreme
It turns bitter and poisonous if not curled and curtailed
Why should one love with their all and haven’t even a tenth in return?
Leaving in its wake damage for the next to suffer and repair

Love they say is selfless and blind
For love looks not with the eyes but the mind
Blind to the pretty follies that they themselves commit
Receding to the background, the needs of loved ones gladly we submit
Love they say is self-deprecating
An outlandish concept but one worth embracing
For even the madman sees beauty in his insanity
A life without love is one never worth living
For there is only one happiness in life
And that is TO LOVE AND TO BE LOVED

A/N: Sorry for the long pause on the blog. My absence was due a combination of work, school, exam and church stuff but the good news is I’m back and raring to go…!

Heat Wave

image
Photo: World of pencils

The sun, a huge mass of hot glowing gas

Biggest Star around which the earth revolves

Orbital pillar for the Milky Way

A blazing ball of fire

Definitely not a season I desire

Rabid rays and blasting beams

Time for capitalist vendors to profit on sun creams

Harmful ultra violet radiation

Fans and ACs down tools in demonstration

Exhausted bottles of sun lotion

Welcome to heat nation

Soaked from profuse perspiration

Dripping down my brow in slow motion

Supernova Sunday

Melting away my sumptuous sundae

Gate crashing my trip out with bae

Born of the melanin clan

To stay in shape was always the plan

Nothing said of this needless body tan

The unbearable heat makes me scream

Windows and doors ajar I can no longer dream

My days have never been hotter

Pssttt… call me that hawker, herh pure water..!

The heat in Ghana these past few weeks has been just unbearable mehhnnn….

HELLO

image

Amongst the lot you were the best
I itched to say “yes” but first you had to pass the test
Classic case of road runner and wily coyote
Handbook to Lady and the Tramp on Bella Notte’s spaghetti

Conventional standards you had to measure up
Oh my I couldn’t wait to call you my buttercup
My glued up heart from experiences past
Stretching and snubbing to see if you’d last

Seizing every opportunity to prove your mettle
Lining up rose petals to my doorway
Your very own remake of Hansel and Gretel
Even without love’s trail you’d never stray

Waking up to your cute morning texts
Though I never replied, you never vex
Suffered you call waitings and blue ticks
Of your numerous choices I still remain your pick

Awestricken by your chivalry
My septic heart of devilry you charmed to one of ivory
Your presence plunges me into a state of euphoria
Detected symptoms of supraventricular tachycardia

My masquerading left you befuddled without a hint
Seemingly stone-cold and hard as flint
You’ve got my hormones jiggling like jell-o
Truth be told you already had me at Hello

~Jorcil

A/N: I didn’t intend on finishing this. I certainly didn’t plan on posting it here but since today is my birthday consider it my gift to you
Wait a minute, isn’t it supposed to be the other way around???

On this day you’d think I’d have some self introspection, reflecting on life and come up with something deep and profound but see… Smh, lol

Shout out to my boy Daniel Opoku Serlorm. Today is also his birthday, y’all do well to check out his blog Mpanyinsem

Peace Out!

Strange Magic

I rue the evening I laid eyes on you
You left me feeling blue
Bewitched by your beauty
Distracted in the line of duty
Bamboozled by your presence
Resuscitated by your fragrance

Seeing you fills me with collywobbles

A mundane “Hello” causes my knees to wobble

You enervate my defenses

Vulnerably, I fumble with my tenses
Cheesy lines and sweaty palms
I’d rather write to you poems of praise from the book of Psalms

Emotionless and desiccated
Diagnosed with a deadpan heart condition
You’ve got me amorous and debilitated
Infected by your quixotic potion
Permeated by love’s patch and intoxicated
Disequilibrium- the state of my present situation

She has me spell bound and under control
She’s the puppeteer and I her puppet
Her absence brings torment to my soul
Though her butter, bread, beauty bulge my budget
To see her laugh makes my existence whole
Smitten by the bolts of Cupid, I’m now a hapless romantic git

Enchanted by her personality
Imperfectly perfect, never a man profited by being finicky
See past the flaws and enjoy the first date
Converted believer of fairy tales, glorious insanity!
Losing you to another leaves me panicky
Destined to be together, theory of the soul mate

I bless the day I met you
You tore down my walls and made me fall
You touched my heart and made me human
I want to make you my bride please say “I do”
I promise to do right by you and give you my all
Grant me the singular honour to be called “your man”

World Poetry Day 21/03/2016

A/N: Easy easy, I’m handing over my “Hard Guy” and “Real Nigga” badges.
If only I hit the Alt + F4 before the catchy soundtrack from the Strange Magic animation came up, sigh.

But yeah, let’s pretend y’all don’t watch sappy animated productions and stuff away that playlist full with Disney soundtracks.

Today is #WorldPoetryDay and I hope you enjoy the poem at least… No? Ok then

Morning Star

image

Curtains, cameras, lights… stage set

Last persons filing in on tiptoe

Crowd enthused and on the alert

Angry stares keeping noise on the low

Overture

Majestically she takes her bow

Her resplendent smile like the month of june

Nimble footed she glides apace

Contorting to the tune

Pirouetting in grace

A shimmy here, a swivel there

In awe her audience fixate

As she dances her way full with love

For a glimpse, men grate their gait at the gate.

Angelic melodies her vocals churn

Soothing the soul and relaxing nerves

Riffs, runs, high pitch

Crescendo!

Her notes she hits with gusto

Like the nightingale but without the falsetto

A swirl here, a twirl there

The final dance she takes with aplomb

Shades of the night of prom

A glorious night to be the attraction

The crowning moment she executes with perfection

Ovation

Coda, she fades out behind the curtains

Morgenstern– the insatiable crowd chant for an encore

To the curtain call she reappears

Cameras, ghost lights directors zoom

Momentous moment as she receives the bloom

To the applauds she blows kisses

Titillated lads punctilious under the wary eyes of the missus

Hats flailing, scarfs whirling, hands waving

Trance

Blurry sights and bright lights

Snap! Back to reality she crashes

Lost in the planet of the mind’s sleight

Straight for the train station she dashes

Half an hour late to the voir dire

Inexplicably she checks into a dance lab

Clarity of mind in sync with desire of heart

The court room was not to be her playground

But for the stage she was made to dazzle

Her soul obedient to the gramophone but not the rhythm of the gavel

Unfazed by the threat to disbar

She cared not for she was destined to be a star

Morgenstern‘The Morning Star’

Our World Needs You

I need you
My world needs you
My world sucked into a black hole.
My world thrust into chaos
Stuck in the revoling door of turmoil and confusion.
Mass murders and destruction everywhere.

Dreadful and treachrous deeds pursued in the name of religion.
Religion stretched to its extreme
A waned elastic
Attacking ourselves trying to prove which religion is peaceful, twisted huh?
To prove who’s wrong, who’s right
Forgetting we are one people
People with family and friends to care for.
One people with the same blood running through our veins
Forget the labels!

Our world is hurting
We are lost and confused
So much strife and grief wherever you turn
Our world is lost
Our world is missing something
And that is you
Our world needs you
Wallowing in our folly we may not admit it
But our world needs you.
Our world needs you, J-E-S-U-S.
No two ways about that.
Our world truly needs you.

~Jorcil

A/N:
I really do not know what to call this. Whether it’s a poem or whatever but in a spontaneous moment where my playlist shuffled to the song below. The lyrics jumped out at me.
And with news of all the chaos happening all over the globe, this just poured out of me.
Our world very much needs JESUS.

My world needs you – Kirk Franklin ft (Sarah Reeves, Tamela Mann & Tasha Cobbs)

I’m really in love with this song from Kirk Franklin’s new album “Losing my religion”.
Every song on the album has been a blessing to me. “Pray for me”, “123 victory”, ” Over”, “No sleep tonight” all of them.

I cant help but believe that the release and timing of this album in this particular time is divinely sent from God to the world through his manservant Mr. Franklin with heavenly precision.

Brilliant song from the legendary Kirk Franklin and he couldnt have gotten any better trio of anointed and seasoned gospel artistes to feature on the track other than Sarah Reeves, Tamela Mann & Tasha Cobbs.
God bless Kirk Franklin and continue to use to spread his word.
